Why did the oyster ride the waves within the sand?
- To get to the sea slide!

Yes, I know, a weird joke, but you know – just in a weird kind of mood tonight.

Speaking of oysters, did you know that oysters are abundant in sources of zinc, vitamin B-12, and omega-3 fatty acids that are vital to keeping us healthy?

Now, did you know that consumption of ray or undercooked oysters can lead to serious illness or even death from Vibrio vulnificus bacteria.  Just like catching E-coli or Salmonella, this is nothing to take lightly.

Eating any kind of variety of oysters, like gulf oysters, can be quite delicious.  But to ensure you do not catch what many would consider food poisoning if they do not catch that harmful bacteria, experts say to read up and be aware of the risks.  Some people are more prone to catching this harmful bacteria more than others!

Visit Be Oyster Aware to find tips, look into information to see if you are an at-risk consumer, learn more about Vibrio Vulnificus and what its symptoms and treatments are, and even find recipes that can reduce the risk of catching this bacteria!
