Catching up and all…

Here it is, Friday – AGAIN!

I love it when the weekends get here, but then the weekends go by so fast.  This is especially true when it is finals week for me.  I am dreading next week as I have two finals, a major paper, and a portfolio presentation all due.  I just breathe and out and say to myself “summer and fall classes, then one semester of student teaching, and it will be all worth it.

I am so looking forward to graduating!  It will be another major leap of accomplishment in my life, one that I have been wanting to see for quite awhile now.  It will be the end of my college years chapter, and opens on a new chapter: Mom who can spend time with her family again because she only works an 8am-4pm job, no school, and can bring her work home with her.

Don’t get me wrong, I know it won’t be a piece of cake starting off as a new teacher.  But compared to what life is now (substitute teaching full-time, school full-time, family full-time), I am all for it!

I can’t wait to start teaching and filling minds, putting in check poor manners and bad attitudes, and set my students up to know that knowledge equals power.  They cannot succeed without the skills and concepts they learn in school!

I plan on working on my freelance writing after next week.  Even though I am going to summer school this summer, it will be a bit easier with the classes I am taking.  All of them are online, with probably maybe 2-3 live appearances.  I know I will at least have to show up on campus to take my Spanish 211 final, but other than that – piece of cake!

I am taking American Lit I and a science class that counts as having a lab (but it doesn’t, SAWEET!) called Meteorology and Climatology.  In other words, I will be studying the weather.  How cool is that?  Something fun and closer to my interests in science, other than astronomy, and I won’t be paying extra to be in a lab class that doesn’t give me any credits towards my GPA, but counts as “hey, I took a lab” requirement towards my degree.

I was in two classrooms today.  The first one was where I was finishing up my 25 hours of observations.  The kids said they will miss me, and honestly – I will miss them also.  They were a great bunch of seniors, full of life and energy … When they weren’t sleeping!  Eventually, that is where I want to be in my teaching career, teaching seniors how to have a great passion for life and school.  I would definitely find a way to keep them excited to move on in their education and not slack off.  Too many of them seem to think life will hand itself over to them with roses and sunshine.  They are in for a rude awakening.

The next stop was my old Creative Writing teacher’s class at another high school.  It was great seeing her, especially since I have known her since I was eight years old!  I spoke to her classes about college life with a family and why I am pursuing my degree.  A great bunch of kids in a college prep program, most are going to NSC in the fall!

Well, I need to get off of here.  My head, neck, and upper back are all giving me agony.  I took a muscle relaxer earlier and a pain reliever not too long ago.  I need to go get some Icy Hot on my back and get to bed.  It has been a long day today!  TTYL!

How refreshing to read about your enthusiasm to be teaching! I’ve taught 23 years and I’m ready to do something different. Keep up the good work! Your joy for the profession will definitely show in the classroom. Kudos to you!
